Have you played Guildwars before? If not, then experiment. If you have played before, then which profession do you like?
No one can truly recommend anything to you, because we don't know what type of person you are. For instance, if you like to get up and personal with enemies, Warriors may be a consideration. If you like to attack from afar, Rangers perhaps.
There are many skills that the Dervish can take advantage of:
Warrior - Shouts (Watch Yourself!)
Ranger - Apply Poison or Serpents Of Quickness (not sure if they are only available in Prophecies or are core skills)
Elementalist - Wards, Enchanted defenses, glyphs
Mesmer - hex removals, condition spreader
Monk - hard rez (rebirth), condition removal, hex removal, enchantments
Necromancers - Mark Of Pain, Barbs, Plague Touch
Paragon - Shouts, Chants, condition removal, hard rez
Dervishes can rely on their own abilities without needing a 2ndary to help out.
So try to see which 2ndary you like the most, before you choose a 2ndary.
I have a D/Mo, hard rez, condition removal, or hex removal, and Reversal of Fortune if I want to help heal the party (RoF + Signet of Piousness = free healing in about 1 second).
Have fun, and good luck!

As said, experiment. Play around with the options. The worse thing you can do is have a fixed build. PvE is good for experimentation (PvP is not as forgiving), if you dont experiment you'll get bored very fast in this game.. ok not everyone does but i do All kind of builds work in PvE, some worse, some better, but you can finish the game even with bad ones with a bit of luck.
Options (PickMe already named some):
/R for ... a pet! Yup that's right. Why not have some fun? And it's not like you have to invest points into beastmastery
/Mo ..probably the best option for PvE, Mending Touch plus enchantments.
/E ..some enchantments can be fun i guess. PickMe suggested Wards, but avoid those because they are spells. In general, avoid non-enchant spells as much as you can.
/W ..WY as PickMe said, plus Protectors Strike when you get Zealous Vow elite (if you do)
/A ..when you get Lyssa avatar and daggers This is a fun option, keep in mind that AoE scythe will usually do more dmg in PvE.
The point is really just having fun testing different stuff.

Warrior is also good because of wildblow. It's an unlinked skill that guarantee's a critical hit. With a scythe that's huge damage. Monk is also good. Ele shines for the synergy between earth magic and earth prayers.
